On the Road to Nationals
In a year when everything is different and nothing is surprising, FBLA-PBL members are aspiring to explore, experience, and engage like never before. We are rounding out our first half of the membership year and have seen our future business leader members accomplish so much! Whether it has been participating in the Stock Market Game, completing a level of the Business Achievement Awards or the CSA program, attending college and career-readiness webinars, or exploring the new Roadmap series, many members have shown their FBLA commitment to getting to “Nationals.”
There are many boxes to check before the highlight of the FBLA membership year! “On the Road to Nationals” is a special campaign designed to help your chapters retain and recruit members. Are you on the road with us?
How It Works:
From December 1, 2020 through March 1, 2021, every FBLA chapter that meets or surpasses their 2019-20 membership numbers will receive recognition and prizes:
- All chapter members will receive a special edition On the Road to Nationals vinyl sticker (display it on your favorite device, water bottle, or workspace!)
- All newly registered members will be eligible for MAJOR giveaways. The earlier you register, the better your chances. Five winners will be selected on December 15, January 22, and during FBLA-PBL week. Follow us on Instagram @fbla_pbl for prize information and winner announcements.
- All chapters will receive special recognition in our year-end membership publications.
Completion of “On the Road to Nationals” also fulfills the final requirement of the Chapter Challenge (an alternative to Action Awareness).
Become a paid member by January 22 and be eligible to win one of five Amazon Echo Dots!
What You Need to Know:
In order to meet the challenge, your membership needs to be active and paid. Members should check with their local chapter advisers and get registered as a member. Once registered, students (with parent/guardian support) may pay their dues online.
Being a paid member entitles you to be eligible for regional conferences, state conferences, and of course – NATIONALS!
Note the following deadlines that require membership dues to be paid:
- January 15 – March of Dimes Grant Application Deadline
- January 22 – Second “On the Road to Nationals” Giveaway Deadline
- February 1
- Spring LifeSmarts Competition begins
- Spring Stock Market Game begins
- Spring Virtual Business Finance Challenge begins
- Spring Virtual Business Management Challenge begins
- February 14-20 – FBLA PBL Week; Final “On the Road to Nationals” Giveaway Deadline
- March 1 – Final Day to Register for Eligibility in National Awards Program (Competitive Events)
Be sure check to check with your local and state advisers to understand any local, regional, or state registration deadlines!
Submit Your Design for Commemorative Pin:
We know that collecting and trading pins is one of the favorite pastimes of the NLC experience. That is why we will be creating a commemorative pin just for the On the Road to Nationals campaign! All chapters that meet or succeed their membership numbers by March 1 will receive two pins: one for the adviser and one for a chapter member. Additional pins will be available for purchase.
Please share your ideas for the commemorative pin design here. A winner will be announced during FBLA-PBL week!
Frequently Asked Questions
Membership registration is open for all divisions. That said, On the Road to Nationals is exclusively designed for the FBLA high school division.
FBLA-Middle Level and PBL members will have access to new and engaging content in 2021. Be sure to register to be among the first to know about new opportunities for you division!
The FBLA-PBL Board of Directors passed a motion, as presented by the NLC Task Force, to host an online National Leadership Conference in 2021. This event will include opening sessions, keynote and featured speakers, workshops, networking and social events, officer campaigns, elections, competitive events, regional rallies and recognition sessions (FBLA), national officer announcements, and Awards of Excellence sessions. Where appropriate, shared sessions may be developed between divisions. An official announcement regarding the format and details of the event are forthcoming in the new year, however we wanted to share this decision with you early as it may impact the decisions you make for your state conferences in the months ahead.
Please note that this was an informed decision supported by an abundance of information with careful consideration to the following points: the state of California is closed to events for the foreseeable future; reports of 39 states not allowing student travel for the duration of the academic year; members and advisers seeking to plan ahead; the increase of COVID-19 spread and the unknown widespread availability of the vaccines; ample time needed to plan an improved online experience; and equity, equality, and access.
As next steps, the NLC Task Force and National Center staff will be gathering input directly from members and advisers in order to meet all the needs and turn this event into the most beneficial experience for all. We fully intend to enhance and improve this virtual event beyond what we were able to do for the 2020 NLE and look forward to working together to make it an outstanding opportunity for all. This will be done in a number of ways including surveys, focus groups, and interviews. More information to follow!
All advisers can explore the adviser resource guide and other resources available in our Leadership Community. For direct assistance, our National Center staff stands by ready to help! Contact Eric Jones email@example.com, Katera Poma firstname.lastname@example.org, or Lisa Smothers email@example.com with any questions you may have.
Congratulations on meeting your membership goals!
There is no need to meet membership numbers again (you met that criteria) and you will be recognized as meeting this goal in year-end publications.
Only new members who are registered between December 1 and March 1 are eligible for the benchmark prizes, so if there are any “newcomers” added to their chapter, they will be eligible to win those benchmark prizes. For chapter incentives, even if you register just one new member, then all your chapter members will receive the vinyl sticker and be eligible for the commemorative pin giveaway.
Current student members are encouraged to follow us on Instagram at fbla_pbl. The National Officers will be leading engagement challenges and member-exclusive opportunities (and there may be a few other prizes sprinkled in here and there).
Advisers are eligible for giveaways as well which are exclusively announced in our Leadership Community On the Road to Nationals discussion thread!
This year has brought recruitment and retention challenges like we’ve never seen before; we completely understand. While the objective is to nurture chapter growth, the focus should be on fostering member engagement.
The activities and resources are purely recommendations to help build chapter growth and not mandatory. Instead, your chapter may want to consider the Action Awareness has an alternative for activities.
We recommend that your chapter focus on engagement instead. Current student members are encouraged to follow on Instagram at fbla_pbl. The participation in engagement challenges and member-exclusive opportunities (and there may be a few other prizes sprinkled in here and there) will help the reach for prospective new members across the country.

Advisers are still eligible for giveaways as well which are exclusively announced on our Leadership Community discussion thread! So even if the chapter does not meet or surpass year over year numbers, there is still opportunity for advisers to engage (and find more ideas from adviser colleagues).
